Alison and I have been poking and prodding away at the back room for a while now, trying our best to get it ready for the little bundle of joy that's coming our way soon. Pretty amazing when the back room was the junk room for the longest time. This is what it looked like when we first moved into the house over two years ago.
Yes, for long time readers I have posted this photo before when we initially tidied up the room but I would argue that even then it lacked a real sense of purpose. Never imagined that we would get it looking like this one day.
Most of the bits and pieces came from Ikea, the place that keeps giving. We never intended to spend a lot of money getting the nursery ready and I think we got away without spending too much. Patching the ceiling with some spakfilla to cover a hole is the extent of our handiwork so we don't expect to be painting the room strawberry pink or anything like that. All we're looking for now are a few cute stickers for the walls and maybe a large canvas to hang somewhere. No doubt something saccharine and whimsical.
As you can see in the corner, Alison's nursing chair that we ordered finally came on the weekend. It was so big that they had to get it in through the window, which was a bit of a worry but at least it's done now. Not looking forward to moving that out when we leave. Either way I think it complements the room nicely, we love the fabric and it's oh so comfy.
Quick baby update as time is rolling in pretty quickly. We are now at day minus 12 and things could happen any day now. In fact, one of the other couples in our antenatal class (who happen to have the same due date) just had their little daughter on Saturday. It was a wake up call for us so the bags are packed, the camera charged and the emergency routes to the hospital are all mapped out. We are trying to remain calm and patient but in truth we really just want to meet our baby girl. So aside from making very encouraging suggestions at Alison's belly, we continue to wait.

Conference at Jupiters
Another conference for the company and this time we drove down to the Gold Coast for the night. It was nice for once to have an agenda that was short and sweet to get the company blurbs and mandatory breakout sessions out of the way so that we could get to the fun bits at the buzz night. Not that the official conference proceedings were bad by any means. There were definite highlights including a demonstration of Krav Maga, walking on broken glass and we all got to hold an Olympic gold medal. Pretty nifty.
George had the guts to walk on glass. Look at him though, it's not like you would expect a few shards to crack that tough manly exterior.
For the buzz night we had a theme of Transformation to dress up to. There were quite a few superheroes and mythical creatures. We took a slightly different tact and opted for external change, in this case a group of plastic surgeons. Scrubs turned out to be hard to find so to be specific we're highly qualified consultants on the ward.
I even got to keep in character and performed an impromptu augmentation on one of the other developers. Pretty good for a first operation I think. I don't think the implants lasted all that long on account of excessive fondling.
Food was pretty good at dinner and breakfast. Can't vouch for the alcohol provided as I was on baby watch for the night just in case Alison called. Based on what I could see everyone else certainly had a good time with the booze. Buzz nights take on a completely different flavour when you're sober that's for sure. If it wasn't already obvious the baby call never came that night.
